SKETCHBOOK WEEKEND
with Colette Cameron

Including outdoor sketching in Weston Park

Two whole days to delve into a sketchbook! Saturday is spent exploring sketchbook approaches and materials indoors, Sunday is spent outside exploring subject matter including, historic buildings, nature, people, what ever you are interested in – The focus is on creating lively, expressive sketches, and there is cover and indoor options so this weekend is excellent whatever the weather

Sketchbook included. Suitable for beginners and the more advanced. This is an all-weather course, with shelter available in the event of poor conditions. Please dress appropriately.

THEATRICAL MASK MAKING with Sarah Jane-Palmer

In this one day workshop you will have the opportunity to design and make you own basic full face or half mask. Learn about the many different techniques used around the world for theatrical mask making with artist Sarah Jane Palmer. Sarah trained as a theatrical mask maker at the Commedia dell’Arte school in Italy and The Mask Academy in U.K and has made a variety of styles of masks for theatre and performance. In one day you will be introduced to the basics of mask making and take a mask home at the end of the day. Templates are provided for making 3D masks using card which are then covered with a tissue paper finish, various pattern and design ideas can be applied to make you mask you own unique design.

ABSOLUTE BEGINNERS LINO PRINTING
with Colette Cameron

During the day you will learn the techniques to design and carve your own lino prints. You will learn techniques to hand burnish and hand print your image. Source material will be provided however you may wish to bring your own ideas and images: a photograph, drawing, or a picture from a magazine or book.

Demonstrations will be given for all stages. The emphasis is on learning basic techniques and creative self-discovery.  You will go home with your prints and lino printing plates.

TROPICAL BIRDS with Anna Massey

On this one day workshop you will learn how to use oil pastels to draw tropical birds in rich saturated colours. Parrots, toucans, macaws and other brightly coloured birds (and animals) are well suited to this intensely coloured medium. You will be taught tips and tricks of how to use oil pastels to build up blended effects and feathery textures and will complete a finished piece to take home.
Suitable for beginners and improvers.

STAR DRAWS with Carl Flint

Are you a fan of science fiction and fantasy? The Art House presents its first SF-themed life drawing class suitable for both beginners and experienced students alike.
This your chance to draw a Star Wars storm trooper from life. Poses will be of varying lengths to give you chance to familiarise yourself with the subject.
Hosted by Carl-Gon Flint, this class gives participants an ideal opportunity to practice drawing from a costumed model in a friendly and supportive environment. Basic materials are provided but students are very welcome to bring their own equipment.

RAG RUG MAKING WORKSHOP with Dee Sayce

Learn how to make your own rag rug using traditional hooking and prodding techniques.

We will explore how to make rag rugs with a variety of recycled materials and how to create different effects using rag rugging tools. During the workshop you will design and start creating your own small rag rug or cushion, you will need to complete your project at home.

All materials and equipment will be supplied. Bring your own pieces of fabric or other re-used and recycled materials to use, if desired.

Tapestry Weaving with Dee Sayce

Learn the craft of tapestry weaving to create your own sampler, wall hanging or small purse/bag. In this workshop you will learn the basics of tapestry weaving including, how to:
weave using a tapestry frame/loom
learn tapestry stitches and techniques
use a variety of colours, textures and materials to design your own project
This workshop aims to teach you the basics of weaving in the hope that you will gain the basic knowledge and confidence to continue to weave at home.

SCREEN PRINTING WITH EMBROIDERY HOOPS with Sam Groom

Screen printing does not have to involve lots of technical equipment and expense!  On this workshop you will learn how to screen print using your own homemade embroidery hoop silkscreen. Sam will teach you two different screen printing techniques – screen-printing using a screen block and screen printing using stencils – to produce a range of simple one-colour prints onto paper and fabric.
At the end of the workshop you will have a fabulous range of colourful screen printed designs to take home and frame.

INDIGO TIE DYEING with Dee Sayce

Learn to make up an indigo dye vat and create rich blue colour, using this fascinating dyeing process. Use a variety of fabric samples to explore stitching and tying techniques with threads, rubber bands, and clips to create beautiful patterns. Design and create your own dyed muslin scarf, tote bag or a piece of fabric for a future project.
All materials and equipment are supplied. If you have a t-shirt or similar size garment, fabric or yarn you would like to dye, please it bring with you.

Please wear clothes you don’t mind getting messy in, or bring an apron.

DECORATIVE PATTERN DESIGN with Sarah-Jane Palmer 

Learn a variety of ways to create repeat pattern designs for fabric, artworks and wallpapers with artist and designer Sarah Jane Palmer. Sarah has been designing patterns for wallpapers and fabrics for 20 years and has sold her designs to private clients internationally. Sarah will introduce you to the many ways of playing with pattern design and experiment with repeat and symmetrical designs. You will have the opportunity to make these designs into sample wallpaper, gift cards or independent artworks to take home.

BLOCK PRINTING ONTO FABRIC
with Sam Groom

On this creative workshop you will carve a design into into an ‘easy carve’ block using lino cutting tools and then create some simple stamps to compliment your block. You can try a range of colourful fabric printing inks to print your blocks and stamps onto a section of fabric before you produce your design onto either a t-towel or tote bag.

ABSTRACT ACRYLICS 

Is abstract painting an abstract concept that you’ve always wanted to learn but didn’t know where to begin? This workshop will teach you how.  As a starting point we will work from life then progress to working from imagination based on a concept and inspiration images.

NATURAL DYEING with Dee Sayce 

Learn how to use tried and tested techniques to dye fabric and yarn using natural dyes. The dye colours are created using leaves, flowers, roots, tree bark and kitchen waste.  During the dyeing process we will make use of mordants to extend the variety of colours.  The dyes will be used to produce samples of which you can take home. Bring small amounts of your own yarn or fabric which you can add to the dye pots, (optional). Learn the basics of natural dyeing and go home with the knowledge and confidence to make your own dyes to use in the future.

BEGINNERS WATERCOLOUR & MIXED MEDIA: BIRDS, ANIMALS & INSECTS

Join me and unleash your creativity on this fun exploratory one day workshop where you’ll learn watercolour and mixed media techniques to better represent birds and insects. Birds are a great source of inspiration, they have fascinated us for centuries, what better way to pay homage to them then to paint them! I will provide a variety of inspiration photographs but you are welcome to bring along your own to the sessions.

All abilities are welcome – course is suitable for absolute beginners. No need to have ever picked up a brush before.

Cancellation and refunds: If you wish to cancel your place on a course you must do so at least 14 days before the course starts in order to receive a full refund. Cancellation must be made in writing or email. If you require a refund we will charge £15 administrative fee. Alternatively you may transfer your booking to another course free of charge.

If you cancel your place less than 14 days before your course starts, you will only receive a refund of 50% course fee (or 50% of the fee value to transfer to an alternative course).  If you require a refund we will charge £15 administrative fee or you can transfer your booking to another course free of charge.

After a course begins we do not offer any refund unless in exceptional circumstances. 

If we have to cancel a course for any reason, then you will receive a full refund with no administrative fee deducted.
