Mette Maya Gregorson – the Danish know how to work with clay!

Last Sunday we hosted the Northern Potter’s Association.

Mette Maya Gregorson, travelled all the way from Denmark to run a lecture/demonstration on her working practices in clay, but we were treated to the rare experience of truly getting to know another ceramic artist intimately. She inspired us with the story of her travels and journeys leaving home at the age of 16 to set up a small pottery dedicated to throwing up to the present day working in abstraction and sculpture ( not unusual if you have an inexhaustible desire to work with clay).

Mette has the natural talent of communicating comfortably with others while her brain whirrs away with ideas demonstrating spontaneously using casting techniques with bamboo/reed blinds, paper clay, plaster and grogged clay. She connects with her audience through humour, humility and a genuine curiosity of artists working practices. Mette was a treat to get to know and she has invited us all to come to Denmark and stay with her in the pottery. I guess that’s the Danish way!
