Family Activities

 Activities for Children and Families

Join us for family friendly creative sessions at the Art House, where your child can enjoy quality hands-on making activities during the school holidays.

Under 8s must be accompanied in the studio/classroom for the activity (unless stated otherwise)

If you want to participate with your child/ren (regardless of age) then please book yourself a place.
In order for us to keep costs as low as possible, we ask that parents of over 8’s do not stay in the classroom unless they have booked a place themselves.  This is so the classroom does not get over crowded as this can have a detrimental effect on the tuition and on the enjoyment of the participants.

Parents of over 8’s who want to stay in the building can enjoy free Wifi in our café.

Parents of under 18’s: please let us know (in advance if possible) if you will be leaving your child under the supervision of staff at The Art House, and ensure that we have your contact details in case of emergency.

How to book: To book and pay please click on the preferred course link below or ring the office (Tel: 0114 – 2723970) and we can take your payment. By doing so you confirm that you have read and agree to our payment terms and conditions, cancellation, refunds and privacy policy set out at the bottom of the page.

SONY DSCSUMMER CHILDREN’S POTTERY EXPERIENCE WORKSHOPS
These workshop sessions will allow children and young people to receive tuition on using the potter’s wheel and more traditional pottery techniques.

For age 8 years – 16 years (children of 8 years old need to be tall enough to be able to sit on a stool and operate the foot pedal.  The height of the stool – seat to floor level – is 17″).

Students will make a tealight holder or personalised sign for their bedroom using the technique of slab building and decorating their piece with stamps and clay embellishments.  This piece will be finished using coloured slips.  In addition students will be shown how to make a pot using the potter’s wheel – choosing a coloured glaze that will be used once the piece is ready for firing.

Choose up to two pots to leave for firing (can be collected 3 weeks after the session).

Given the limited places available (10 students per session) we are advertising these sessions for children and young people only rather than family groups – sorry mums and dads – but parents are welcome to relax in the Tea Studio cafe downstairs (free WiFi) or visit the exhibition spaces whilst the session runs.
