SIP AND PAINT: DRAWING BY CANDLELIGHT with John Kerr
Draw by candle light whist sipping a glass of your favourite tipple, in a friendly, sociable environment.
In this session, you will create a still life image with support from an experienced tutor, working with charcoal and chalk to produce a drawing with real atmosphere.
Suitable for all abilities, including complete beginners.
Bring your own wine, we’ll provide the glasses! (18+)

SIP AND PRINT: SHEEP AND OTHER ANIMALS with Mia James
In this session you will be block printing sheep (and other animals) for Christmas decorations or using for other Christmas crafts (cards, gifts tags, and so on).   Printing blocks are handmade and the textile inks permanent.

Suitable for all abilities, including complete beginners.
Bring your own wine, we’ll provide the glasses! (18+)

WEDNESDAY ART CLUB with Flora Menager
Art Club is a great opportunity to develop your artistry in a social, inclusive and relaxed environment. The sessions provide the perfect balance between taught learning and freedom to develop skills in any medium of your choice with guidance and support from Flora.  A variety of drawing and painting materials will be available for use including: watercolour, gouache, pen and pencils, charcoal, pastels, acrylic, oils, inks. Book individual dates, or look go to Art Courses to book a six week block at the discounted price of £70.

PAINT AWAY- CAPTURING THE EXPERIENCE OF YOUR HOLIDAY ON CANVAS with Flora Menager 
Deciding what to paint can be an arduous task. In this course, taking your favourite holiday photographs as inspiration we will learn acrylic painting techniques to translate the sensations and experiences captured in that moment onto canvas.
We will explore how to evoke a particularly magical aspect of the photograph (and memory of it!) to really create something to treasure. There will be time for Flora to provide you individual painting and composition technique advice to best accomplish your artistic goals.

* Please bring a photograph from your travels to use as inspiration. This can be a photograph of absolutely anything that you would like to paint!

LIFE DRAWING USING PASTELS with Flora Menager 
 Participants will be taught a variety of drawing and coloured pastel techniques to represent the figure.  This class is ideal for students who are interested in improving these skills and who want to practice using colour. All skill levels are welcome to this class and guidance will be given at all stages.

AN INTRODUCTION TO SPINNING with Dee Sayce
Learn to spin sheep fleece and other fibres to create unique, colourful and textured yarns that can then be used in your own knitting, crochet or craft projects.
In this workshop you will learn the basics of this ancient craft, including how to:
– spin using both a drop spindle and a spinning wheel
– sort a fleece
– card fleece into rolags ready for spinning

 

This workshop is suitable for beginners.  Materials and equipment are provided.

MOSAICS FOR THE GARDEN with Diana Storey 
Students will learn a different mosaicing technique which involves putting glass, ceramics and found objects into cement. This cement can be coloured with students choice and formed into any shape they wish. Students will learn how to use tile and glass cutters and will leave a mosaic piece to dry which can be picked up the week after. The finished pieces are applicable for outside use. This is a fun fast way of mosaicing without the need for grouting.

PAINTING FROM A LIFE MODEL with John Kerr 
In this workshop, watercolour and acrylic paint will be provided, but please feel free to bring your preferred media.
One long pose will give you the opportunity to complete a finished painting.

SPRING FLOWERS AND SECRET GARDENS IN OIL PASTEL with Anna Massey 
On this day workshop you will learn how to use oil pastels to create both drawings and more painterly effects. We will be drawing individual spring flowers and creating an oil pastel ‘painting’ based on the idea of the Secret Garden – a hidden doorway or arch leading into the spring garden beyond. Suitable for beginners and improvers.

UNDERSTANDING PERSPECTIVE with John Kerr
This workshop is an introduction to one point, two point and perhaps even three point perspective. You will learn how to produce a feeling of depth in your drawing. Pencils and paper will be provided, but please feel free to bring your preferred drawing media.

Payments: All courses or workshops must be fully paid in advance and all major cheques, cash and credit/debit cards are acceptable methods of payment. To pay by cheque please click here to download a booking form and send back with a cheque made payable to “St Matthews House Ltd”.  You can also drop in Monday – Friday from 11am – 3pm to pay in person.

If you have an Art House gift voucher please follow the instructions below:
• Pay the full price of the course online.
• Email us prior to the course date to tell us you have used a voucher.
• Bring the voucher with you on the day to receive your cash back.

Cancellation and refunds: If you wish to cancel your place on a course you must do so at least 14 days before the course starts in order to receive a full refund. Cancellation must be made in writing or email. If you require a refund we will charge £15 administrative fee. Alternatively you may transfer your booking to another course free of charge.

If you cancel your place less than 14 days before your course starts, you will only receive a refund of 50% course fee (or 50% of the fee value to transfer to an alternative course).  If you require a refund we will charge £15 administrative fee or you can transfer your booking to another course free of charge.

After a course begins we do not offer any refund unless in exceptional circumstances. 

If we have to cancel a course for any reason, then you will receive a full refund with no administrative fee deducted.
