SIP AND PAINT: START YOUR OWN SKETCHBOOK ADVENTURE with Colette Cameron 
Fun, fast and quirky sketching and doodling exercises to get you started on your own sketchbook, while enjoying a glass of your favourite tipple!
An evening packed with ideas and inspiration to spark your imagination and let you catch the sketching bug. Free sketchbook for each participant. Suitable for all abilities.

ART CLUB with Flora Menager
Art Club is a great opportunity to develop your artistry in a social, inclusive and relaxed environment. The sessions provide the perfect balance between taught learning and freedom to develop skills in any medium of your choice with guidance and support from Flora.  A variety of drawing and painting materials will be available for use including: watercolour, gouache, pen and pencils, charcoal, pastels, acrylic, oils, inks. Book individual dates, or look go to Art Courses to book a six week block at the discounted price of £70.

IMPRESSIONISM AND MIXING COLOUR – PART 1             with Flora Menager
In this one day workshop you will learn painting techniques used by impressionist painters and how to mix colour. Have you ever wondered why you struggle mixing colour to achieve that purple or green you had in mind? Well, come and learn the reasons behind this phenomenon and how to overcome them! MOSAIC WORKSHOP with Coralie Turpin 
Come along and have a go at making mosaics with experienced professional artist, Coralie Turpin.
On this full day course there will be an introduction to mosaic covering the cutting and laying techniques to get you started.
Working with the direct method using ceramic and glass tesserae as well as a variety of other materials to create an A4 sized artwork for your home.
Suitable for complete beginners or those with some experience. All materials are included.

BEGINNERS ACRYLIC TECHNIQUES: PAINTING FROM A PHOTOGRAPH with Flora Menager 
Participants will learn acrylic techniques by painting from a photograph of their choosing or from a variety of inspiration images available on the day. This is the perfect opportunity to capture in paint your favourite photograph and learn some the basics of acrylic painting! This class is suitable for all levels, including beginners.
This class will cover –

– Setting out; Composition and transcribing your image
– Mapping light and dark values
– Acrylic characteristics and how to use them
– Brushwork and blending
– Colour theory

If you would like to paint from your own inspiration image please bring the image with you on the day

MOSAICS FOR THE GARDEN ~ with Sarah Falkenberg and Diana Storey
Students will learn a different mosaicing technique which involves putting glass, ceramics and found objects into cement. This cement can be coloured with students choice and formed into any shape they wish. Students will learn how to use tile and glass cutters and will leave a mosaic piece to dry which can be picked up the week after. The finished pieces are applicable for outside use. This is a fun fast way of mosaicing without the need for grouting.

WOODCARVING WORKSHOP with Jason Turpin
Learn how to carve a small wooden animal from local wood.
Local sculptor, Jason Turpin Thomson’s introduction to woodcarving helps the beginner or more experienced woodcarver to gain skills with hand tools. With thirty years of professional sculpting experience, Jason encourages confident tool handling in a variety of woodcarving techniques, axe carving, sawing, chiselling, mallet & gouge work, knife carving and abrasive carving techniques can be safely explored.

Sam groom lino

SOFT CUT LINO PRINTING with Sam Groom 
On this lino cut printing workshop you will learn how to transfer your design onto ‘soft-cut’ lino, cut out your design and print using a selection of colourful inks onto paper of various kinds using a small table-top printing press. At the end of the session you will have a range of your own unique prints ready to be  framed and hung on your wall!

IMPRESSIONISM & MIXING COLOUR – PART 2 with Flora Menager
Through the practice of painting a still life participants will learn painting techniques used by impressionist painters and how to mix colour in order to depict the fleeting nature of light.  This class is a great starting point for anyone new to painting or that would like to learn colour theory and mixing techniques.

CITYSCAPES FOR BEGINNERS: DRAWING, WATERCOLOUR AND GOUACHE (Part 1)
With Flora Menager

Participants will learn watercolour techniques relating to painting cityscapes. This class is suitable for all levels, including absolute beginners looking to gain confidence by learning perspective and painting techniques in an in-studio setting that can later be used when painting outdoors. The class will begin with perspective drawing practice and conclude with a final watercolour painting.

PAINT AWAY – CAPTURING THE EXPERIENCE OF YOUR HOLIDAY ON CANVAS with Flora Menager 
Deciding what to paint can be an arduous task. In this workshop, taking your favourite holiday photographs as inspiration we will learn acrylic painting techniques to translate the sensations and experiences captured in that moment onto canvas,
We will explore how to evoke a particularly magical aspect of the photograph (and memory of it) to create something really special to treasure. There will be time for Flora to provide you individual painting composition technique advice to best accomplish your artistic goals. (Image: Paul Gauguin)

Please bring a photograph from your travels to use as inspiration, this can be a photograph of absolutely anything you would like to paint.

COILED BASKETRY with Dee Sayce
The ancient craft of coiled basketry can utilise a variety of materials including yarn, fabric, rushes and raffia. Coiled baskets start with a spiral shape and then worked into the required shape as it develops.
In this workshop you will learn how to make a small basket or mat using your own choice of materials.

STAINED GLASS TREES USING COPPER FOIL with Kate Billington 
In this full day workshop you will learn to cut, shape and join pieces of stained glass to create a unique light-catcher using the copper foil process. You will have the opportunity to choose from a vast range of coloured & textured glass to design and make a piece on the theme of trees; deciduous or evergreen!

FIGURE DRAWING AND PAINTING – LINE AND COLOUR IN ACRYLIC with Flora Menager 
Through the exploration of colour and it’s effects, participants will be taught a variety of drawing and acrylic techniques to represent the human figure with an emphasis on evoking feeling through expressive colour and paint application. The class concludes with a 3 hour pose where students can practice the techniques taught. All skill levels are welcome –  guidance will be given at all stages.

Payments: All courses or workshops must be fully paid in advance and all major cheques, cash and credit/debit cards are acceptable methods of payment. To pay by cheque please click here to download a booking form and send back with a cheque made payable to “St Matthews House Ltd”.  You can also drop in Monday – Friday from 11am – 3pm to pay in person.

If you have an Art House gift voucher please follow the instructions below:
• Pay the full price of the course online.
• Email us prior to the course date to tell us you have used a voucher.
• Bring the voucher with you on the day to receive your cash back.

Cancellation and refunds: If you wish to cancel your place on a course you must do so at least 14 days before the course starts in order to receive a full refund. Cancellation must be made in writing or email. If you require a refund we will charge £15 administrative fee. Alternatively you may transfer your booking to another course free of charge.

If you cancel your place less than 14 days before your course starts, you will only receive a refund of 50% course fee (or 50% of the fee value to transfer to an alternative course).  If you require a refund we will charge £15 administrative fee or you can transfer your booking to another course free of charge.

After a course begins we do not offer any refund unless in exceptional circumstances. 

If we have to cancel a course for any reason, then you will receive a full refund with no administrative fee deducted.
