SIP AND PAINT: WATERCOLOUR LANTERNS with Colette Cameron 
What happens when you combine the stained glass effect of watercolours, half remembered fragments of myth and story, and the ancient illumination of fire? Answer: Magic Lanterns!
A workshop for the creatively curious, beginners welcome. Please bring a glass jam jar.

STAINED GLASS TREES USING COPPER FOIL with Kate Billington 
In this full day workshop you will learn to cut, shape and join pieces of stained glass to create a unique light-catcher using the copper foil process. You will have the opportunity to choose from a vast range of coloured & textured glass to design and make a piece on the theme of trees; deciduous or evergreen!

ART CLUB with Flora Menager
Art Club is a great opportunity to develop your artistry in a social, inclusive and relaxed environment. The sessions provide the perfect balance between taught learning and freedom to develop skills in any medium of your choice with guidance and support from Flora. A variety of drawing and painting materials will be available for use including: watercolour, gouache, pen and pencils, charcoal, pastels, acrylic, oils, inks. Book individual dates, or look go to Art Courses to book a six week block at the discounted price of £60.

LIFE DRAWING: HANDS AND FEET IN CHARCOAL with Catherine Hutchinson
Learn to draw, or improve your drawings of, what are considered to be the most difficult parts of the body to portray competently.
Much individual support and guidance offered by the tutor.

This workshop covers basic anatomy, proportion, form and gesture.

WOODCARVING WORKSHOP with Jason Turpin
Learn how to carve a small wooden animal from local wood.
Local sculptor, Jason Turpin Thomson’s introduction to woodcarving helps the beginner or more experienced woodcarver to gain skills with hand tools. With thirty years of professional sculpting experience, Jason encourages confident tool handling in a variety of woodcarving techniques, axe carving, sawing, chiselling, mallet & gouge work, knife carving and abrasive carving techniques can be safely explored.

Suitable for beginners and those with some experience.

ABSTRACT PAINTING IN ACRYLICS With Flora Menager
Is abstract painting an abstract concept that you’ve always wanted to learn but didn’t know where to begin? This workshop will teach you how.  As a starting point we will work from life then progress to working from imagination based on a concept and inspiration images.

IMPRESSIONISM AND MIXING COLOUR with Flora Menager
In this one day workshop you will learn painting techniques used by impressionist painters and how to mix colour. Have you ever wondered why you struggle mixing colour to achieve that purple or green you had in mind? Well, come and learn the reasons behind this phenomenon and how to overcome them! This class is a great starting point for anyone new to painting or that would like to learn colour theory and mixing techniques. (Oleanders, (1888, Vincent van Gogh)

MOSAIC WORKSHOP with Coralie Turpin 
Come along and have a go at making mosaics with experienced professional artist, Coralie Turpin.
On this full day course there will be an introduction to mosaic covering the cutting and laying techniques to get you started.
Working with the direct method using ceramic and glass tesserae as well as a variety of other materials to create an A4 sized artwork for your home.
Suitable for complete beginners or those with some experience. All materials are included.

SOFT CUT LINO PRINTING with Sam Groom 
On this lino cut printing workshop you will learn how to transfer your design onto ‘soft-cut’ lino, cut out your design and print using a selection of colourful inks onto paper of various kinds using a small table-top printing press. At the end of the session you will have a range of your own unique prints ready to be  framed and hung on your wall!

COILED BASKETRY with Dee Sayce
The ancient craft of coiled basketry can utilise a variety of materials including yarn, fabric, rushes and raffia. Coiled baskets start with a spiral shape and then worked into the required shape as it develops.
In this workshop you will learn how to make a small basket or mat using your own choice of materials.

Payments: All courses or workshops must be fully paid in advance and all major cheques, cash and credit/debit cards are acceptable methods of payment. To pay by cheque please click here to download a booking form and send back with a cheque made payable to “St Matthews House Ltd”.  You can also drop in Monday – Friday from 11am – 3pm to pay in person.

If you have an Art House gift voucher please follow the instructions below:
• Pay the full price of the course online.
• Email us prior to the course date to tell us you have used a voucher.
• Bring the voucher with you on the day to receive your cash back.

Cancellation and refunds: If you wish to cancel your place on a course you must do so at least 14 days before the course starts in order to receive a full refund. Cancellation must be made in writing or email. If you require a refund we will charge £15 administrative fee. Alternatively you may transfer your booking to another course free of charge.

If you cancel your place less than 14 days before your course starts, you will only receive a refund of 50% course fee (or 50% of the fee value to transfer to an alternative course).  If you require a refund we will charge £15 administrative fee or you can transfer your booking to another course free of charge.

After a course begins we do not offer any refund unless in exceptional circumstances. 

If we have to cancel a course for any reason, then you will receive a full refund with no administrative fee deducted.
