SIP AND PAINT: DRAWING BY CANDLE LIGHT with John Kerr
Draw by candle light whilst sipping a glass of your favourite tipple, in a friendly, sociable environment.
In this session, you will have the opportunity to create a still life image with support from an experienced tutor, working with charcoal and chalk to produce a drawing with real atmosphere. Suitable for all abilities, including complete beginners. Bring your own wine, we’ll provide the glasses!

Learn to spin sheep fleece and other fibres to create unique, colourful and textured yarns that can then be used in your own knitting, crochet or craft projects.
In this workshop you will learn the basics of this ancient craft, including how to:
– spin using both a drop spindle and a spinning wheel
– sort a fleece
– card fleece into rolags ready for spinning

This workshop is suitable for beginners.

Materials, equipment and light refreshments are provided.

Learn the ancient craft of weaving to create your own fabric from yarn and other materials.
The fabric can then be made into a wide range of items, including: scarves, bags, clothing, wall hangings, belts etc.

In this workshop you will learn the basics of weaving including how to:
– use a small table loom
– design your fabric
– prepare your loom
– weave using a variety of techniques

This workshop is suitable for beginners.

Materials, equipment and light refreshments are provided.

On this workshop you will learn how to use a range of specialist equipment to cut and shape glass and join pieces together using the copper foil technique to create a unique wall mirror 20cm x 20cm

Suitable for beginners and those with some experience of working with glass. Please bring a permanent fine marker pen

This will be small class of 6 to enable plenty of individual attention.

Suitable for beginners and those with some experience of working with glass.

FABRIC PRINTING: WOODLANDS AND BIRDS with Mia James 
In this workshop you will learn to print onto fabric using a range of handmade printing blocks inspired by local woodlands and birds.
You will learn the technique using small leaf blocks and then experiment with larger bird and tree motifs to create pattern designs, single prints or composite images. You will be using permanent textile inks which are not machine washable so the technique is suitable for clothing or home furnishings. Materials are provided but you may want to bring additional items to print.

FABRIC PRINTING: PEACOCKS with Mia James 
In this workshop we will be creating permanent textile prints using handmade printing blocks inspired by peacocks. there will be a selection of peacock printing blocks you will mainly be working with the blocks of the head and body and then create the effect of the tail feathers using small shape blocks, Indian printing blocks and fabric applique. . Materials are provided but you may want to bring additional items to print.

BLOCK AND STAMP PRINTING ONTO FABRIC with Sam Groom
In this creative workshop you will carve your own easy carve block using lino cutting tools and then create some simple stamps to compliment your block. You can try a range of colourful fabric printing inks to print your blocks and stamps onto a section of fabric before you produce your design onto either a t-towel or tote bag.

Suitable for complete beginners and those with some experience.

In this one day workshop you will learn painting techniques used by impressionist painters and how to mix colour. Have you ever wondered why you struggle mixing colour to achieve that purple or green you had in mind? Well, come and learn the reasons behind this phenomenon and how to overcome them! Payments: All courses or workshops must be fully paid in advance and all major cheques, cash and credit/debit cards are acceptable methods of payment. To pay by cheque please click here to download a booking form and send back with a cheque made payable to “St Matthews House Ltd”.  You can also drop in Monday – Friday from 11am – 3pm to pay in person.

If you have an Art House gift voucher please follow the instructions below:
• Pay the full price of the course online.
• Email us prior to the course date to tell us you have used a voucher.
• Bring the voucher with you on the day to receive your cash back.

Cancellation and refunds: If you wish to cancel your place on a course you must do so at least 14 days before the course starts in order to receive a full refund. Cancellation must be made in writing or email. If you require a refund we will charge £15 administrative fee. Alternatively you may transfer your booking to another course free of charge.

If you cancel your place less than 14 days before your course starts, you will only receive a refund of 50% course fee (or 50% of the fee value to transfer to an alternative course).  If you require a refund we will charge £15 administrative fee or you can transfer your booking to another course free of charge.

After a course begins we do not offer any refund unless in exceptional circumstances. 

If we have to cancel a course for any reason, then you will receive a full refund with no administrative fee deducted.
